Samcheong-dong runs north from Gyeongbokgung along the eastern wall of the palace, a street of galleries, small shops and restored hanok houses climbing toward Bukaksan. The district sits between the palace and the presidential compound, which kept it from being redeveloped, so the street scale is older than most of central Seoul.
The street runs uphill, and the hanok district above it is quietest on weekday mornings.
